We are seeking a mechanically adept PLC programmer with a solid understanding of process control and electrical background to service dynamic industries where minimal downtime is critical. The candidate must be capable of working independently in remote locations, with little direction, as the lead technician in commissioning, integrating, troubleshooting, and maximizing the performance of OEM sawmill equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Seven years of industrial control system design, construction and commissioning with at least five years in a sawmill or planer mill environment.
  • Engineering Technologist Diploma or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Advanced skills in PLC and HMI development.

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Perform all aspects of control system design from initial consultation to client signoff.
  • Program process controls using RSLogix, ScadaPak, Omron, and other PLC software.
  • Create electrical schematics, layout, P&ID, Input and Output drawings for construction and tender packages using AutoCAD.
  • Develop and program operator interfaces ranging from simple pushbutton start control consoles to full process control touchscreen applications.
  • Construct and wire PLC, human-machine interface, contactor, and variable frequency drive panels to CSA standards.
  • Perform project construction management, start-up, commissioning, and operator training.
  • Manage and conduct installations, electrical/program troubleshooting, and field repairs.
  • Manage and develop communications networks including Ethernet, Modbus and DeviceNet.
  • Manage and troubleshoot TCP/IP routing and security.
  • Write technical operations manuals for complex machinery.
  • Research and document processes.
  • Develop client, supplier, and colleague relationships while in the field and in the office.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Travel to sites throughout North America without restriction.
